Operation Yard Work

While Kev was in ATL for a work, my sweet momma came to spend a few days with me. With everything that has been going on with both of my grandmothers, you can say we needed it in a really big way.

First things first - we sent momma to the spa Monday morning for six hours of pampering. Kev had purchased her the princes package at a local spa that included a massage, facial, pedi, mani, hair cut, blow out and style, lunch and makeup application. She never does things like this for herself. She was like a kid in the candy shop and I am so glad we were able to provide that experience for her.

We then worked our tails off in my yard. When I say work, I mean work.
Yard work is hard y'all! Especially in the July humidity in Kentucky.
All of this needed to be done back in the spring, but with all the crazzzzziness with the grannies it had been postponed.

Holy Flowers!

I was really proud of my hedger that I have been needing for far too long.
Baby bro gave me a lesson in hedging and I have conquered my boxwood hedges .... piece of cake.

We worked for two days - non stop. I had even taken a day off from work to get it all done.
One day we were in Lowe's by 730 and were outside till dark,(at least 10pm) with only a 45 min break for lunch the entire day.
It was worth every second and I loved being able to spend time with my momma who has quite the green thumb. I was so happy to learn from her.

20 hostas
2 rose bush transplants
2 hydrangea bushes
8 ornamental grasses
10 plus potted plants (zinnias, petunias, vincas)
3 hanging flower boxes for the fence and
1 herb box   later.................

we did it!

Thanks to my sweet momma, I have found a new love for digging in the dirt.

Hometown Wedding Shower

September 30th, 2012

Kev and I drove to my hometown tucked away in Eastern, Kentucky for our hometown wedding shower thrown by my sweet momma.
It was great to spend time with family members and friends who showered us with love, affection and such thoughtful gifts.
Since my family makes plenty of trips to Lex to visit me and baby bro, mine and Kev's trip to Whitesburg are few and far between. The afternoon was even more special to have so many women there who had watched me grow up.
From a little girl to a bride to be.
They have been a part of so many stages of my life and it was very nostalgic to have them there with me that day. Wishing me well as I was preparing to marry the love of my life.

Below: My sweet Granny (on the right) and Mamaw J.
She isn't really my Mamaw, but I grew up calling her that. Still wouldn't change that for the world.

Katrina and Megan, the MOHs, were of course there to celebrate with me.
Love that they are Eastern Kentucky Rednecks Girls, too.

There isn't a memory from back home that doesn't involve this girl.
So blessed to have had her as a best friend growing up in a small town.
We always knew how to create our own fun. There are memories I share with her that I will always hold tight to.

My momma outdid herself.
She poured her heart and soul into throwing her baby girl a wedding shower. She slaved all weekend making my favorite finger foods and desserts. I was seriously blown away!
She started the shower off with a surprise slideshow set to music of me and Kev.
I bawled like a lil baby. Total ugly cry!
I swear she is the most sincere and hard working woman I have ever met.
She always puts others happiness first.
She is truly a giver and NEVER a taker.
I love her so much and I am so thankful I get to call her Momma. This day reminded me of that.

Look at all those cakes... homemade by my mom's sweet friend.

The shower was everything a country girl could have imagined.
Quilts galore!
Longaburger baskets everywhere
Bluegrass music in the background
sweet tea sippin with close friends and family
It was perfect!!!

KR got to meet so many people that day that he never met before.
We were both blown away with this particular wedding experience.
We just felt so supported and so loved by so many people. There is no better feeling than that right before your wedding.

Seeing so many people so happy for us was very, very humbling.
We walked away that day with feeling so blessed, and it had nothing to do with materialistic things.
Our hearts were full that day.
No wedding gift can top that!

It was that day that I started looking forward to our wedding in a different way than I had before.
I was looking forward to having all those people at our wedding......there to support us for the rest of our lives and watching us vow to love each other every single day.
:-)

She makes her 50's look good :-)

Happy Birthday to the most amazing woman that I know

The woman who knows how to push my buttons and call me on my crap
The woman who has a heart of pure gold and always puts others above herself
The woman who is my rock
The woman who walks the Christian life day in and day out
The woman who taught me to wear my 4 inch heels and not slouch my shoulders even when towering at over 6 feet tall in them
The woman who believes in me on my very worst days
The woman who sacrificed to give me everything the world has to offer
The woman who I admire so much as a mother and a wife
The woman who picks me up when I am down, wipes the tears when I am sad, encourages me when I am afraid, and loves me through it all. The woman who is truly my best friend
Happy Birthday to my Momma :-)

Mom – I hope you are reading this from your brand new ipad :-) :-) :-)  I love you soo much.

this made my night

I got the following photo texted to me last night
from....
my DAD's celly!
My dad can barely answer his cell phone let alone send me a photo.
He has recently learned to text, but
it may or may not take him 15 mins to write one reply text.
 But texting photos....WHOAhhhh!
This was big time.

I opened the text to find this....

This meant moma and daddo  had put up their Christmas decorations. Which makes me so sad that my brother and I aren't there to share every second of it with them. #GrowingPains. The mantle is my favorite. You cant tell here, but my mom always puts up a ceramic nativity scene that she handmade years ago. It has been my favorite part of the Christmas decor ever since I was a little girl. I want it to be in my house so bad one day.

I know the picture quality is terrible, but hey, pops gets major credit for the attempt.
The mantle is not the point of the text.
It was the stockings hung by the chimney with care that got my attention.
The stockings read in order
Charlie (little brother), Whitney(that would be me), Bailey (my 4 legged child), Faith (mom and dad's 4 legged terror) and Dempsey (mom and dad's adopted 4 legged sweetheart).

The two stockings on the end were hard to read from the photo, so my mom texted me this

A stocking for Uggie Sue and Kevin "Rex" Rexxy Poo.

Made my night.
And of course KR's, too.

It's no secret that this past summer KR and I had a rough patch that was not only tough for me, but just as tough for my family.
That bridge is slowly being rebuilt
This just reminded me of it to me a little more.
It's the little things in life that make the world go round.

Mom and Dad - i know you read the bloggy from time to time so - thank you for making my night. You all are AMMMAZING individuals and even better parents. Thank you for your patience, understanding, love and support that you shower me with every single day. Love you guys!

Hope everyone is having a great week...it's half way over. :-)

Datenight with my Mama

This past weekend I had a very hot date...
with my mama of course :-)
As soon as I found out Lady Antebellum was playing in Eastern Ky, I jumped on the opportunity to buy us tickets. My mama was so thrilled and I was super excited as well. I LOVE country music concerts with a fiery passion.

We of course went out with our boots on.

And I had to snap a pic with my bailey boy before we headed out on the town.
He makes such a pretty, pretty boy.

The concert was at a smaller venue known as the Expo center in Pikeville, Ky which is very close to my hometown.

Lady A opened up with Josh Kelley and Randy Montana. For those of you who dont know, Lady A's leading male, Charles, is Josh Kelley's brother. Josh Kelley is also the hubby of the fabulous Katherine Heigl.  Just a lil background lesson for ya.

Snapped a few photos....but quality concert photos are hard to get. Even harder with my el cheapo camera. But they turned out not too shabby. See for yo'self.

And there they are, Hillary, Davis, and Charles aka Lady A

Davis is such a sweetie and he is so talented. He played everything from guitar to piano to madolin. His presence was so genuine. I feel like Oprah might call his energy that of an"old soul."

Miss Hillary can flat out sing! Girlfran has some major pipes. She is engaged to a big time Nashville drummer who is currently touring with Lady A. They were so cute during the show. You could catch them exchanging little glances. Her hubby to be was quite the lil hottie. She seemed so down to earth. My kinda gal :-)

Oh and then there is Charles. Oh Charles! I dont know what it is about this man...but he makes my blood boil a little. Now this gal does not go for skinny men. I like my man to have a little meat and taters on his bones :-) I especially don't care for super skinny men in super skinny jeans. And Charles' jeans were SKINNY. Like so skinny I dont think I could get my big toe in them. I am pretty sure the width of one of my thighs is equal to both of his. Ha! However, he has something about him that makes those skinny jeans look so masculine.

He was my favorite part of the show. I could listen to his voice everyday for the rest of my life. He was so personable during the show, too. Always interacting with the fans and so humble through the entire night. He definitely made some references to all those pretty Kentucky girls in the crowd and made all the ladies in the house blush. It was cute.

The chemistry that Charles and Hillary have is OFF THE CHARTS. It was a lil steamy if you ask me. I mean they really make you believe those songs they are singing are about the two of them. There was something very real, believable, and powerful about what goes on between them on stage. They brought their A game.

The group played for almost 2 hours. It was one of the best concerts I have been to in a while. So much positive energy and such good music. They were terrific live and I highly recommend ya'll go out and see them if they come to your town. If you are a country music fan, you will not be disappointed.

It was after 11 by the time we headed home. Late for a Sunday night. My dad is such big kid at heart and of course waited up for us to get home. He never rests to his gals are safe and sound at home. We called him before we headed back home.
I laughed so hard when he asked my mom...
"hun, do you care to stop and get me some taco bell?"
she replied "only if we can buy you some skinny jeans"
hahah! I dont think he quite understood....especially since my papa is 6 foot 9.
We will just let Charles continue to pull off the skinny jeans.

here is a lil clip from the concert and my favorite Lady A song American Honey.

ya'll enjoy!

social networking addict

It's true. I confess...i have finally broke over and gotten back into the Twitter craze. I created an account way back in 2009, but was never really into it. Why you ask? Well, quite frankly because I never took the time to learn how to use the darn thing. All the #, @, RT, etc were just plain confusing to me.  I am trying to get back in the swing of things and re-learn the twitter/tweeting language. So come over and follow me at whitneyb_14. I apologize in advance for my twiiter ignorance...hehe.

Outside of twitter news, mama and I are seeeing LADY A tonight....super excited to have mommy/daughter date night :-) Can't wait to share photos with ya'll this week.

Hope everyone is having a great weekend!

good things still come in small packages

A day or two after halloween this came in the mail.
My favorite part is the return address :-)

And just for the record...I still live in my lil palace with my lil baily boy and that ain't changing anytime soon. There will be no living with members of the opposite sex until a marriage certificate and a big ole fat rock is on my left hand. Just so we are clear. Capish? :-)

Although I am on only 3 years away from 30,ohgosh i think i may throw up,  my moma still sends me care packages and holiday goodies. Always has and always will. She is pretty awesome.

Look what was inside

Homemade carmel corn

homemade popcorn balls...one of my faves. she makes them every year for trick-or-treaters in our neighborhood

My lil package also had some sweet treats and made my day. I love getting mail, especially the kind packed with love straight from home :-)

Happy Friday and cheers to a fabulous weekend!!
