Springtime in the Bluegrass

April 13th 2013 - football season returned to Kentucky.....well sorta.
It's no secret, the bluegrass state had a very difficult football season ( we won't even go there regarding our basketball season....this is Kentucky people, we are still mourning).
KY football has been resurrected by our new head coach, and there were lots of true blue fans out in full force to celebrate UK's spring practice, aka - the Blue/White game.
We are talking 50,000 plus fans out to tailgate and watch a practice.
I don't even know if there were that many fans at the last home game of the 2012 season....like I said, we struggled.

There is a new buzz around Commonwealth Stadium, a buzz that is excited for football season 2013. Who says we are just a basketball state?!? Well......we wont go in details there. No much of an argument after all.....juz bein honest!

Kev and I decided to participate in all the festivities last Saturday to cheer on the Cats!
Y'all know I broke out my boots and my Kentucky blue!
We planned all kinds of tailgating festivities with our closest friends

Was so much fun! And we are finally seeing warm weather here - thank you Spring!

After the game, hubs and I got a wild hair up our hineeys and decided to go out to a concert after the football game/practice. Who are we?!!?
Just trying to pretend we can hang....pretend is the key word there.

I managed to talk my closest girlfriends into tagging along to the downtown concert.
Of course I had packed a lil bag for us to freshen up at a friend's house...no worries!

I brought my teasing comb and was giving out poofs galore.
Brushes, nars blush and hairspray flying everywhere....felt like we were living in our college dorm all over.
Don't get me wrong, i LOVE living with my hubby, but I will always miss glam sessions in the bathroom with my guhhrrrls. 3 women sharing one mirror is priceless!

After we poofed, blushed and powdered - we were ready to see Chris Knight in concert.

Chris Knight was playing at one of mine and Kev's favorite local venues - Busters.
And boy did he put on a show....

We sang the night away to some good music, sipped on some good drinks and enjoyed some good company.

A great way to kick off some springtime weekend fun!

all of the above may have resulted in a late night date trip to Waffle House. I can't tell you the last time I had been on the inside of that place. I know y'all wont judge me....cause that waffle and those hashbrowns covered and smothered were dammmnnnn good!

Baby Bro's Bling

So apparently I am not the only one walking around with some serious bling on my hand, baby brother is too.

You may remember that baby brother is on a Division I football scholarship at Eastern Ky University.

Yeah, I am pretty proud of him if you can't already tell.
Well last season his team won their conference and at their spring game two weekends ago, baby brother got his championship ring.

ahem ahem...please don't judge him for this horrible facial hair sitchy that is growing on his face.
he tried to explain to me that the team does crazy things with their facial hair for their spring practice session.
i don't quite understand, but i do still love him.
i am praying this is a phase.

Anywho...back to the bling....

Here he is checking out his ring.
Daddo trying to get in on the bling
Friends and fans of baby bro made the drive down to celebrate with him.

We are from a one horse town and the kid is still kind of big deal back where I come from.
Kind of...sheesh who am I kidding. I swear we can't go to the local grocery store or the hot spot Wal-Mart without him having to sign autographs or kiss babies. Our hometown has some MAD love for my baby brother...still.
They don't make enough of kids like him :-)
I may be biased, but I am pretty sure there are lots out there who know him that would agree.
He is blessed with talents in so many faucets of his life that so many people would kill for.
And the thing is...sometimes I don't even think he has an ounce of understanding how special he is and how he impacts those around him on a daily basis.

He makes his parents pretty proud too!

Last season he didn't get to play because of this

AND this

(all of which are fully healed)
and his couch still told my dad that he is one of two players that has the most impact on their team.
Now how is that for leadership?
It's true though! I swear I see it even in daily interactions with his friends. He has a god given talent to lead people and brings the best out of those around him.
I am so lucky to be his sister.

Yep, he is a pretty freakin cool little brother.
My life is better because he is in it.
I love you Charlie!
And I am soooo incredibly proud of you.
I remember in the 7th grade when we discovered that you were a HELL of a football player and those around the sideline would call you "Charles in Charge"
And now look at you....you made it baby bro!
You make me so proud and I love you more than you will ever know :-)

here is an oldie, but a goodie - and I am proud to admit i still own that shirt!
I need to update it to maroon!

Baby Brother Update

So baby bro is wearing this awful brace and sling....

as a result of this....

Yuck right?!?! Well the good news is that he is NOT going to require surgery. Thank goodness. The surgery they had talked about doing would have possible made for a year long recovery. Baby bro is still in mega pain and doesn't have full feeling in his ring and pinky finger :-(, but we are soooo happy that surgery is off the table.

My family and I went to the last EKU homegame on Saturday. EKU won!!! The win tied them for the OVC championship and they are officially in the playoffs. So proud of those boys, they have all really became like little brothers to me over the past few years.

So baby bro has decided he isn't cutting his facial hair ,or hair at all, till after the season is over. It is starting to get a little Out oF Control! Ugh, I beg him to cut it. It is plain gross. I just had to share.

i mean, it looks like a forest is growing on his face

i think i see a resemblance to the EKU colonel mascot

This is soooo much better

And although baby bro is done for the season, we are still his biggest supporters.

Please look at my dad's face...it is almost impossible to get him to pose for a normal pic

We had a nice lil dinner after the game together, my treat. It feels so good to be able to buy them and treat them every now and then. That is a feeling I looked so forward to when I was in college. I could never pay them back for all the things they have done for me and baby bro. My parents are so awesome!

I snapped a few photos at dinner.
Pops had to borrow mom's glasses to read the menu. Hilarious. He is too stubborn to go the eye doctor to get his own spectacles.

I love spending Saturday's with my family. It is beyond my favorite part of football season :-)

Hope ya'll are having a fabulous start to your week!

last weekend's whirlwind

Helllllllo!
I have been totally MIA lately. Last weekend, and this whole week, have been a major whirlwind. I feel like I have barely had time to do anything. Work and social obligations are totally interfering with my blog life haha. I mean I am doing my weekend re-cap post on Thursday for pete's sake...where did this week go??

Last weekend was just what the doctor ordered - i.e 3 day weekend baby!
I took friday off from work and headed out to Keeneland to bet on the ponies with my girl Megs and company. It was a rather brisk and chilly fall day and we opted to not wear our cute dresses and stilettos for fear of freezing to death all day. I still think we looked just as cute in our fall colors and boots, if i do say so myself  :-)

Miss Kendra was in town from Memphis with her hubby. We joined her for tailgating fun involving skinny girl 'ritas, qdoba, and cupcakes.

Newlyweds :-)

Once inside, we needed a lil snack after tailgating. Thank goodness meg came prepared with beef jerkey....hahaha. Of course I had to get a quick pic.

I love the fall meets at Keeneland in the bluegrass.

My daddy sent me an email early morning with all his handicap picks for the races. My daddo knows horses! He had 4 out of 6 races picked correctly and I won a little extra cash for my pockets. Woot Woot!

My bestie, Katrina, came into town friday night with her hubs and sister, and of course, baby Magnus and Trigg.  April's hubby and some other whitesburg friends joined us. We had a lil whitesburg reunion together and went to our local fave, Malone's, for some good grub involving sushi and steak. I love it when whitesburg peeps come to visit. It makes lexington feel a lil more like home.

Baby Trigg

April (katrina's sister) and sweet lil Magnus

KR also enjoyed us the night. I was a little anxious, but i have the most amazing friends who are able to not be judgemental and support whatever choices I make and welcome us into the social scene together with open arms. Everything went so well and we had such a great night catching up with everyone. I LOVED the babies being with us and I miss those lil guys so much. They have no idea how blessed and loved they already are.

Saturday morning I spent the day with the family at EKU to support baby brother and the colonel football team. It was EKU's homecoming and there were lots of tailgating festivities. The day involved
-a needed heart to heart between me and my daddy sitting on a concrete wall while eating some good ole southern bbq
- a reunion with one of my favorite people from my college journey
-a WIN for the colonels
-the first family meeting with my brother's new gal pal (more on this in the future)
-and a run in with a min celebrity
Yep! That is Shelly from this past summer's season of Big Brother.  I was just sitting in my seat in the stands watching the EKU football team warm up when I saw  someone walk in front of me that looked familiar. The tall, slender woman was taking pics of the stadium and the team and just seemed so happy to be on the EKU campus. Then I realized exactly who it was. Shelly!! As a former EKU alum and former homecoming queen, she had been asked to join in on all the homecoming festivities by the university. I am a total dork and of course had my pic snapped with her. Although I am a HUGE Jeff and Jordan fan on the show (shelly was known for evicting jeff last season), this gal was such a sweetie. She was so friendly and polite to me and my family and had such a warm presence around her.

Well...that was just the beginning. So i put something silly about meeting her as my facebook status and immediately got a msg in my inbox from a blast from the past. It was my greek advisor from years ago whom I had become so so close with. She truly became my mom away from home during my undergrad years. We got very close while I was at Transy and still keep in touch. I cant say enough good things about her. Anywho, she stated in the fbook msg that  she was on her way to the stadium for homecoming and we decided it was a must for us to meet up. Well, turns out that my blast from the past greek advisor was also  Shelly's greek advisor years ago at EKU before she worked at Transy. Small world huh? Well her and Shelly are like total bffs.  I spent some time with both of them during the 3rd and 4th quarter of the game. I confess...i wanted to ask shelly about all the dirt on big brother, but i of course kept my cool. I did get some interesting info from her, but more importantly i realized what an awesome person she was....so down to earth and so charming. Just shows you cant believe all the reality tv garbage and tabloids. It was a great surprise to my Saturday.

Sunday - i played catch up with work, took bailey boy to the dog park, and went to church. It was a super duper busy weekend, but a great one at that.

I have had lots of fun things going on this week and cant wait to share with you all :-)

Hope everyone is having great weeks! I am looking forward to the weekend (oh wait...i have to work saturday...yuck!)

Be blessed!
